Who should get paid?
Test before you print. Scan the finished code with a UPI app and check that your name shows up on the payment screen. If it does, the code is right.
What a UPI QR code actually contains
It is just a payment link, drawn as a picture.
A UPI QR code holds a short piece of text that starts with upi://pay. When a UPI app reads it, the app knows exactly which account to pay, what name to display and, if you set one, how much to ask for. The payer still confirms with their own PIN, so the code can only ever be used to send money to you, never to take it from anyone.
| Part | Meaning | Required |
|---|---|---|
| pa | Payee address — your UPI ID | Yes |
| pn | Payee name shown on the payment screen | Yes |
| am | Amount, in rupees with up to two decimals | No |
| cu | Currency — always INR | Added for you |
| tn | Note that appears with the payment | No |
Fixed amount or open amount?
- Leave the amount empty for a shop counter, a tip jar or a donation box. The payer types whatever applies each time, and one printed code serves every customer.
- Fill the amount in for a fixed price: a membership fee, a class, a rent instalment or an invoice. The payer sees the figure already entered, which avoids typing mistakes on both sides.
- Add a note when you need to tell payments apart later, such as a table number, an invoice number or a batch name. It shows up in the payer's history and yours.
Printing it so it scans first time
- Use SVG for signs and stickers. It is vector, so it stays crisp at any size. PNG is fine for WhatsApp and screens.
- Keep it at least 3 cm wide for a counter, larger for a wall. Dark code on a plain white background is the most reliable combination.
- Do not crop the white border. That margin is part of the code, and cutting it is the most common reason a scan fails.
- Protect it. A code behind glossy laminate can catch glare, so choose a matt finish where you can.
A safety note. A QR code is only ever used to pay. If someone asks you to scan a code to "receive" money or "claim" a refund, it is a scam. Nothing that arrives in your account needs a scan or a PIN from you.
What this tool does not do
This makes a plain UPI payment link, the same kind you can share from your own UPI app. It does not create the special merchant QR codes that banks issue to registered businesses, which carry a merchant category and settlement details. If you run a registered business and need those, get the QR from your bank or payment provider. For a personal account, a small shop, a class or a tip jar, this is all you need.
Want a code for a website, Wi-Fi network or contact card instead? Use the QR code generator, or read an existing code safely with the QR scanner.
Frequently asked questions
Will it work with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM?
Yes. The code holds a standard UPI payment link, and every UPI app can read one. Scan it from inside the app or with the phone camera, and the payment screen opens with your name and UPI ID already filled in.
Where do I find my UPI ID?
Open your UPI app and look at your profile or the "UPI IDs" section. It looks like name@bank or phonenumber@bank. If you use more than one app, each may have its own ID, and any of them works here.
Does the code expire?
No. It is a static code with your details written into the pattern. It keeps working for as long as that UPI ID stays active. If you close the account or change the ID, make a new code.
Can I add my logo or change the colour?
Not on this page, on purpose. Payment codes are scanned in poor light by whatever camera is closest, so this tool keeps to plain dark-on-white with strong error correction. The main QR generator offers styling if you want it.
Is my UPI ID stored or sent anywhere?
No. The code is drawn inside your browser and nothing you type is uploaded. You can switch off your internet connection after the page loads and it keeps working.
Why does the payer see a different name?
UPI apps may show the name registered with the bank account rather than the name in the code. The name in the code is used as a fallback. If they differ, it is usually because the bank holds a longer or formal version of your name.
